Last night, I dreamed that I saw my grandmother in a blackberry thicket. She was about 18 years old and was wearing jeans and a faded work shirt. She she showed me an enamel bowl full of thumb-sized blackberries. Everything, she said, is so delicious here.
I called my sister this afternoon to tell her. (This is not the first time my grandmother has come to me in a dream.) She had a similar dream last night and my grandmother told her that she had to go to Jesus, but not to be sad.
I think this is God wanting to comfort us and let us know that our grandmother is safe in heaven and waiting for us. I love the idea of heaven being a place with thumb-sized blackberries and 18-year-old grandmothers in old clothes. (It's funny though, because my grandmother was beautiful and quite a clothes-horse.)
This morning, I remembered that if our baby is a girl, we're going to name her after my grandmother. Wonder if that is a sign. I am so excited to find out...

That's a really cool dream! Nate would be eating every single berry he can find over there ;) I can't wait to find out what you are having... I loved being pregnant... it was so wonderful to realize that God was knitting a precious little creature inside of my belly with his fingerprints... so amazing...
Hope you are having a good week!
Love,
Mohana
If it's a girl, Susan...I'm going to absolutely fast-forward my learning-to-sew process and probably design an entire line of little dresses :)
What a lovely post. I love berries, esp thumb sized ones. I have heard that pregnant women often dream of women in their families (I have no idea where i heard that, but it is a nice thought). I am glad that we are friends.
Mohana, I would really like to see him eating those blackberries. You should come with me this spring when I go strawberry picking. I would love that.
Rebekka, I would LOVE that more than I can say. And also, you should think of baby food recipes. You are going to be the kind of mom I will aspire to be.
Elisa, the priest asked me if I had any dreams of the women in my family. I guess that's a common belief. I wonder if there is any significance to that. I am so desperate to know. I could not wait another 20 weeks. I do want my family to be near more than I did before. I am glad we are friends too.
i love the 18 year old grandmother's part. what a fun picture of heaven. your writing is awesome. great seeing you. email me when you find out what your having. hudson said he thinks your having a boy.
It was good to see you, too! I will definitely let you know what the baby is. I find it extremely interesting that Hudson thinks its a boy. I was so sure of that too until I started dreaming of my grandmother. I wondered if that was a sign. I am so eager/anxious to see the sonogram that I can hardly sleep.
this is beautiful, su.
Thank you. :-)
