Monday Nibbits

1. I found this article entitled The Qualities of a Godly Woman this afternoon and soon thereafter got a little nauseated. Whether it is because the article is nauseating or because of the condition I'm in, I'll leave you to determine. The only commentary I have right now is that I truly believe the human courtship ritual would be about as lively as tofu if women weren't allowed to wile the objects of their affection just a leetle bit. (Or a lot, actually.) How sad.

2. I don't even have a comment for this article except for that I'm pretty sure the decision to breastfeed or not is still a choice. There are no weaning police at my door, not yet anyway. It's probably a mistake to bemoan the passing of a right that hasn't actually passed. Gah.

3. This article is absolutely fascinating. I can't wait for Lifetime to make a movie. It will be worth getting cable for.

#1 made you feel sick because it is an incomplete look but does not say that. Why is there a specific way to wait? To sit passively by? Not in all cases.
This sentance:Godly men will be looking for godly wives, so how are we supposed to live?
gives the impression that we should learn to live in a godly way to be ready for marriage, a direct contradiction of what the article later says.
oh, and a Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood? That in itself is suspect to me.

Christians are so hellbent (can I say that?) on getting it right that we have to figure out the correct way to be a godly woman. What about praying that God shows us how to handle each situation with a man and not worry so much about whether or not we are being led or pursued?
just sayin'

Well said.

The more I think about it, the more I really believe that the scriptures are vague on purpose so we'll have to really learn to pray and listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit to guide us. You can't dogmatically tell someone how they should behave in their romantic relationships. Each one is special and different. Everyone has a different story and that is by divine design, I believe. God is romantic and doesn't create paint-by-number relationships.

On the first one, my reaction was kinda "wow, I'm glad I met my husband while I was off wandering away from God." And I don't think I like having reactions like that.

Then again, I react poorly to "how to get a husband" advice generally, be it religious or secular, unless it begins and ends with the statement "be yourself".

Tari, I think it's scary to encourage women to be passive in any situation, but especially in this situation. I really believe that there are a lot of guys who are attracted to some fundamentalist and "complementarian" churches because there are a lot of passive marks there. It's just not a good idea to equate passivity with godliness. That's just my opinion. Probably shaped by all the jerks I've met at church. :-)
